About Me

From a very early age I always had an interest in making and creating things with wood. At 12 years old I built my first garden bench from offcuts of wood that I collected from various places on my bike: the bench is still being used today, ten years on!

When I was 13, I set up a shop at the bottom of my driveway and started selling window boxes, planters and wooden trugs. Suddenly, clients began asking for bespoke sized window boxes which led onto orders for a hedgehog house then chicken, turkey and even tortoise houses; recycling storage units and picnic tables.

I spent all my weekends creating things from wood - my passion for carpentry was born, as was my desire to run my own business. ‘Rory’s Wooden Designs’ was launched and the logo created in 2020. The following year in 2021, aged 18, I was awarded ‘Cornwall Apprentice of the Year’ in the construction trade.

I put one hundred percent commitment into my business, but I also like to play hard. During my downtime I enjoy cycling, backpacking, camping, walking, surfing and pottering around with my Ferguson T20 tractor. I also enjoy going to "The Grand Design" shows and other various exhibitions to gain ideas for future projects.
